Will Free Insulation Grants Return?
While schemes such as ECO4 and GBIS have now closed, insulation is still a key part of the government’s long-term plans to improve energy efficiency across UK homes.
Future support is expected to come through the Warm Homes Plan, a £15 billion programme designed to fund home upgrades over the coming years. This will replace previous schemes and take a broader approach, focusing on improving how homes perform overall rather than funding single measures in isolation.
What the Warm Homes Plan Is Expected to Include
Insulation is expected to remain a central part of the scheme, with support likely to cover:
External or internal wall insulation
Loft and room-in-roof insulation
Cavity wall insulation
Underfloor insulation
The aim is to address the areas where the most heat is lost, helping your home retain warmth more effectively and reduce ongoing energy use.
Who Is Likely to Qualify
Support is expected to be prioritised for:
Homes with EPC ratings of D, E, F or G
Properties that are expensive to heat
Households that may struggle to fund upgrades upfront
Funding could be available up to £15,000 depending on the property and the level of improvement required.
What Insulation Can Be Installed in Your Home
The right type of insulation depends on how your home is built and where heat is being lost. The focus is on targeting the areas that will make the biggest difference, rather than installing everything unnecessarily.
Every property is different, which is why we don’t take a blanket approach. At Elite Energy, we assess where your home is actually losing heat and recommend the insulation that will make the biggest difference, based on your property, your usage, and what feels manageable for your budget.
Loft Insulation
Stops heat escaping through the roof, which is one of the biggest sources of energy loss in most homes. This is often the quickest way to reduce heating use and improve overall warmth.
Room-in-Roof Insulation
Designed for converted loft spaces, this helps retain heat in rooms that would otherwise lose warmth quickly through the roof. Improves comfort in attic bedrooms and upper floors.
Cavity Wall Insulation
Fills the gap within external walls to prevent heat escaping. Helps stabilise indoor temperatures and reduces how quickly rooms cool down once the heating is off.
Internal Wall Insulation
Applied to the inside of solid walls, reducing heat loss in properties without cavity walls. Helps improve how well rooms retain heat, particularly in older homes.
External Wall Insulation
Adds an insulating layer to the outside of the property, significantly reducing heat loss through solid walls. Can deliver a noticeable improvement in overall heat retention across the home.
Underfloor Insulation
Reduces draughts coming up from below and improves comfort across ground-floor rooms. Helps maintain a more consistent temperature, especially during colder months.
