Free External Wall Insulation Grants
Free insulation grants are available through two national schemes: ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS). Both are designed to reduce energy waste in solid-wall properties, improve EPC ratings, and lower heating costs for households across the UK.
Fully Funded Installs: ECO4
The ECO4 scheme supports low-income and vulnerable households living in energy-inefficient homes. Where properties qualify, ECO4 usually covers the full cost of external wall insulation, including scaffolding, insulation boards, render or cladding, and installation by accredited contractors.
Households may qualify if they meet criteria such as:
Receiving qualifying benefits (e.g. Universal Credit, Pension Credit).
Living in a property with a poor EPC rating (E, F, or G).
Being in social housing or private rented homes with inefficient heating systems.
Funding Routes for All Property Types
Both schemes are open to homeowners and landlords with qualifying tenants. We manage the entire process, from eligibility checks and funding paperwork through to installation scheduling and final sign-off, so you have clear guidance at every stage.
Part-Funded Installs: GBIS
The Great British Insulation Scheme offers broader eligibility, often linked to council tax bands and EPC ratings. Many households secure free external wall insulation through GBIS, but in some cases a partial contribution may be required. Even where part-funded, the grant significantly reduces the upfront cost of what is normally a higher-value project.
Households may qualify if they meet criteria such as:
Living in properties within council tax bands A–D in England, or A–E in Scotland and Wales.
Owning or renting a home with a low EPC rating (E, F or G).
Being part of a household with a gross annual income below £31,000.
