ASHP Grants

Free Air Source Heat Pumps

Unlock support that could replace your old heating system at little to no cost.

ASHP Grants Through BUS

If you’re searching for a free air source heat pump, it’s important to understand what support is currently available. While fully funded schemes have largely been phased out, government grants can still significantly reduce the cost of installation.

The main route available today is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), which provides a £7,500 grant towards the cost of installing an air source heat pump.

If your home qualifies, we’ll take care of everything, from survey to installation. Use our free eligibility checker to see if you're eligible in under 60 seconds.

Who Qualifies for a Free Air Source Heat Pump Grant?

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides a £7,500 government grant towards the cost of installing a heat pump. This scheme is available to owner-occupiers in England and Wales, and doesn’t require you to be on benefits, but it’s not entirely free.

BUS provides you with a fully independent heating system. You’re not locked into any energy supplier or tariff. Once installed, the heat pump is yours, with no contracts, catches, or future repayment.

Eligibility Check

  • You must own your home

  • Your current heating must use gas, oil, electric, or other fossil fuels

  • Your home must have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) with no outstanding insulation recommendations

  • You must contribute the remaining cost after the £7,500 grant (we’ll confirm how much during your free survey)

What If You Don’t Qualify?

If your property doesn’t meet the criteria, you can still install an air source heat pump through a private installation. We offer tailored quotes based on your home’s size, insulation levels and heating demand, along with flexible finance options to help spread the cost.

What Are the Benefits of an Air Source Heat Pump Grant?

Installing a heat pump through a government grant can reduce your heating costs and improve the energy efficiency of your home.

  • Lower Energy Bills: Heat pumps use electricity far more efficiently than oil, LPG, or electric storage heaters. This means lower day-to-day running costs for most households, average savings are £300 a year.

  • Cut Carbon Emissions: Air source heat pumps use renewable heat from the outside air. This helps reduce your home’s carbon output and supports the UK’s wider net-zero targets.

  • Long-Term Efficiency: With a lifespan of 15-20 years and low maintenance requirements, heat pumps are a reliable and energy-efficient upgrade for long-term use.

  • Improved EPC Rating: Upgrading your heating system and insulation can raise your EPC rating, helping your home meet future regulations and improve overall value.

  • Future-Proof Your Heating System: With gas boilers being phased out in new homes and increasing pressure on fossil fuel heating, installing a heat pump helps position your home ahead of regulatory changes and rising energy costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have tried to answer most questions here but if you have any other queries please feel free to contact us!

Can I still apply for a heat pump grant if my boiler is working?

Yes, a working boiler doesn’t disqualify you. Many properties with functioning but inefficient systems, such as electric storage heaters, old oil boilers, or LPG systems, are eligible under BUS. We'll assess your system during the survey.

Can I choose the brand or model of heat pump that’s installed?

We’ll recommend a system based on your property’s heating demands and grant requirements. All units come from trusted, MCS-approved manufacturers, and we’ll explain your options during the survey so you know exactly what’s being installed.

Do I need to upgrade my radiators for a heat pump system?

Not always. In some cases, existing radiators are sufficient. If upgrades are needed for efficiency, we’ll let you know during your survey and include them in your proposal.

Will my home be disrupted during the installation?

Installation is typically completed in 2-3 days. Our in-house engineers work cleanly and efficiently to minimise disruption, and we always leave your property tidy and safe.

Can landlords apply for ECO4 on behalf of their tenants?

Yes, landlords can apply for ECO4 funding if their tenants meet the eligibility criteria. We’ll just need consent and confirmation of tenancy during the application.

What kind of maintenance does a heat pump require after installation?

Air source heat pumps are low maintenance. We recommend an annual check-up to keep the system efficient, but they don’t require the frequent servicing that gas boilers do.
